Last weekend 27th January we had some guests staying over for the night Explorer Scouts from Grave in Holland an excellent time was had by all. They arrived at the airport on Friday night and walked to Troon where they were accomodated by Troon Explorer unit after an interview with the local Police [who are you where do you come from typical Scottish wellcome?] I'm sure they would have sang the answer back to them!! and a visit to the Chippy they arrived at Troon where they enjoyed a night with the lads there, up for breakfast and off to catch the train to Ayr, couldn't believe the view along the coastline which they had walked in the dark the previous night. They arrived at Ayr station an hour or so earlier than Eddie expected [got him out of bed with a phone call i'm sure] saying they had arrived at the Cathcart Street hall to find it empty and locked? Eddie came down and let them in to off load their heavy kitbags and head up the town for some souveneir shoping. They arrived back at the hall around 12 where the young scouts had been busy making lunch of home made vegetable soup and burger rolls which I can recommend if you get the chance [watch out this year at the cooking comp these kids are on the ball] By lunch time we had arrived and were introduced to the troops. Mark had been buying car stickers saying IVE BEEN TO SCOTLAND AND TRIED THE HAGGIS he has now. We tidied up and left Eddie to take some of the kitbags back to Tarbolton then headed off for a walk along the River Ayr getting to know one another along the way. This is where the confesion comes in as we walked along we came to a sign on the path which said we had to cross the bridge to go to Auchincruive "WRONG" however after much discusion we followed the signpost and after around 1 mile the path ran out? However we carried on in the usual Uncle Andy mode of were taking a we short cut through 2 fields 1 farm yard and back onto the main road which after a short discusion and vote we decided it was safer and easier to stick to the road a few more miles past and the sore feet were kicking in and the time flying on [they say they can walk for 24 hours?] so we phoned the transport managers and were picked up half an hour later [should have been 10 min's but Uncle Andy took a short cut] we stoped off at at Stair Inn for a weeee refreshment and then headed back up to the hall ready for the nights entertainment after we got the ladies showered we and ready we doned the Kilts and headed off to the Scout hall for the Ceiledh [A fund raiser for Gordon and Ryan who are heading off to the World Jamboree later this year This turned out to be one of the best nights in a long time [sorry if I didn't dance enough] we finished the night off with a quick camp fire then off to bed only to be wakened by 7 mobile phone alarm clocks at 8'AM felt as if we'd just went to bed. We all got ready and leactured Eddie and Tom for their snoring etc just in time for Graeme to arrive to pick the guys and gals up and take them to the airport. I know we all had a great weekend but it just was'nt long enough, we have been invited over to Holland which we can't wait to do and hopefully we could make it it a regular group link? We have added a link to Scoutingrave and ScoutingGelderland on our links page have a look.

Independence day
Some Kyle district Explorer scouts and leaders took part in the Auchingillan Jamboree 2003 helping with the 76th 77th Glasgow disabled scouts a great time was had by all, hard work but really enjoyable and rewarding as you can see.
A good bunch of lads who work well with each other. Working as a team is a big part in scouting, we have recently been involved in helping East Ayrshire Car Club marshaling at Rally's and Sprints one of our older Explorers is now navigating on the Rally's. [See Pic Jock and Stuart at the Gallowayhills] Through this we have met Colin McRae and Nicky Grist as well as some of the up and coming young drivers, its a great way to meet people and gets you out and about in the countryside we quite often camp nearby to the stages to save us getting up so early as they are usualy a fair distance away. At the Gallowayhills Rally we hire the Scout Hall in Gatehouse Of Fleet which is really handy because we help with the setting up of the stages on the Saturday ready for the 7.00am start on the Sunday. The marshaling involves communicating by 2 way radio letting the other marshals and officials if there are any accidents etc. they also help with timing both on start and finish line which can be hectic at times especially if 2 or 3 cars arrive at the same time etc.
